The author enjoys personal non-property rights and economic rights to use their work.<\/p><p>Related rights protect the interests of intermediaries in the dissemination of works:<\/p><ul><li>performers (for live performances and recordings);<\/li><li>producers of phonograms (for sound recordings);<\/li><li>broadcasting organizations (for radio and television broadcasts).<\/li><\/ul><p>Related rights derive from copyright and are regulated by the same law.<\/p><p>In Azerbaijan, copyright arises automatically upon creation of the work &#8211; registration or deposit is not required for protection to exist. Since 1996, Azerbaijan has maintained a registration system for copyrighted works.<\/p><p>Nevertheless, voluntary registration with the Copyright Agency provides significant practical advantages:<\/p><ul><li>greatly simplifies proving authorship in court in cases of plagiarism or unlawful use;<\/li><li>enables the conclusion of official licensing agreements, sale or assignment of rights;<\/li><li>records the author\u2019s name in the state register, enhancing reputation and professional recognition;<\/li><li>opens access to international competitions, grants and programs requiring official confirmation of authorship;<\/li><li>significantly reduces the risk of plagiarism accusations and serves as reliable proof of priority.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Trademarks and Geographical Indications<\/strong><br \/>A trademark is any graphically representable sign (words, images, letters, numbers, colors, product shape, packaging, or combinations thereof) that distinguishes the goods\/services of one entity from those of others.<\/p><p>A geographical indication is a sign showing that a product originates from a specific region and possesses special qualities, reputation or characteristics attributable to that geographical origin.<\/p><p><strong>Trade secrets:<\/strong> formulas, processes (e.g., product recipes) &#8211; protected without registration, provided confidentiality is maintained.<\/p><p><strong>Topographies of Integrated Circuits (ICs):<\/strong> three-dimensional layout of active\/passive elements and interconnections in semiconductor substrates that ensure the electronic function of the microchip.<\/p><p><strong>Databases:<\/strong> a systematic or methodically arranged collection of independent materials (works, data or other objects) accessible electronically or otherwise.<\/p><p><strong>Utility Model Patent (\u201csmall invention\u201d):<\/strong> protects new and industrially applicable technical solutions of a smaller scale (new device design, mechanism, etc.). Requirements: novelty and industrial applicability (inventive step not required). Simple and fast registration process. Term: 10 years (non-renewable).<\/p><p><strong>Industrial Design Patent:<\/strong> protects the appearance of a product &#8211; shape, ornament, color scheme, configuration. Requirements: novelty and originality. Term: 5 years, renewable up to 25 years (in 5-year increments).
